At the Maths Fair 2015

Hi there!
Are you thinking about transforming the way your comunity thinks about computer programming?
Then, a coding day out of school is what you need.
So last saturday, we were at the IX Maths Fair in PALEXCO, The Congress and Exhibition Centre of A Coruña. The fair was organized by AGAPEMA (Galician Association of Maths teachers)

Why?
Because a Maths Fair is a problem-solving Fair!
And Programming is about  problem-solving!
Problem-Solving is Everywhere!

It was a great fun! The event let students the opportunity to share their coding projects with their peers from other schools, families, teachers, media...

Our kids were teaching  how to create video games using Hopscotch.
The magic words were: " Hi! Would you like to learn how to create your own video games on the iPad?"  and all the kids answered "YES" with a big smile.
It was a fantastic day!

Animated stories using Hopscotch, Coding for Kids

Hi guys!
Here you are your animated story using Hopscotch turned into a cartoon video.
Well done! You are very good coders but  excellent actors too!

Congrats!
Your animation has all the elements of a good story:

  •  It has got a title: "Escape on a starry night"
  •  There is a narrator and there are some dialogues.
  •  There is a setting: Where and When the story takes place.
  •  There are heroes and villains, main characters and supporting characters, protagonists and antagonists...
  •  There is a plot that is all the action that takes place during the story.
  •  There is a conflict: the robbers try to escape from the police but the hero stops them.
  •  There is a climax: the villains are defeated and Pod saves Hopscotch City.
  •  There is a resolution: Hopscotch characters go out and celebrate the victory. Everybody is happy. It's a happy-ending.

Happy International Women's Day 2014!

Hi guys!
Let's inspire change:
More women in science, engineering and technology!
Girls, the World needs you. The future is yours!

* I made my project using Hopscotch. You can play with it from any web browser, no iPad required.

* And here you are "Labels against women" one of the most powerful commercials I've ever seen.
It's about a man and a woman doing the same things but the words associated with them are very different.
 Why?
Don't let labels hold you back!

Happy Women's Day!

Girls want to be engineers, not princesses!

Hello there!
The toy company Goldie Blox (toys for future inventors) made this amazing commercial with three little girls: Sabrina, Raven and Reese.
It's a video against stereotypes, against "pink" toys.
Girls, don't underestimate yourselves. You have got a great potential. You can be what you want to be. It could be great to be scientists, mathematicians, engineers or computer programmers! It could be great to create the things you imagine.

Why the toys for girls are not usually toys that encourage girls to enter in technology or engineering?
Why do girls always have to play with dollhouses?
At Our school,  we want to change things, so girls and boys are learning  programming language with two free amazing iPad apps:  Daisy the Dinosaur for 1st & 2nd grades,  Hopscotch  for 3rd & 4th grades and Scratch for 5th & 6th grades.

I really love Hopscotch!!
